Heat pump vs electric
A heat pump moves heat from the air into the water and is far cheaper to run than a resistive electric heater for ongoing heating — ideal for maintaining temperature over the season.

Size it to your pool

A pool cover dramatically cuts heat loss (and evaporation), so a smaller, cheaper-to-run heater can hold temperature — well worth pairing.
